THE SPEY AT ITS FINEST

Fishing at Orton

The Orton Water is one of the most sought-after stretches of salmon and sea trout fishing on the River Spey, widely regarded as one of Scotland’s finest salmon rivers. Set within the beautiful Spey Valley, around eight miles upstream from the river’s mouth, this exceptional stretch offers outstanding fishing in a peaceful and unspoilt rural setting.

Renowned for both the number and quality of fish landed each season, the Orton Water has long been considered one of the most productive Spey fishing beats, and remains a destination high on the list of many anglers.

Our dedicated ghillies possess an intimate knowledge of the Orton Water and the wider River Spey, offering expert guidance, local insight and traditional river craft to ensure a memorable fishing experience for both seasoned anglers and those new to the Spey.

The orton experience

Orton Water offers two miles of exceptional double-bank salmon fishing on the River Spey across two beats and 15 named pools.

Upper Orton features the House, Glide, Willows, Couperee, Green Bank and Upper Cairnty pools, while Lower Orton includes Lower Cairnty, Arns, Island Point, Island Stream, Wee, New, Twenty Pound, Junction and Turn pools.

Each beat has its own luxury fishing hut with modern facilities, accommodating up to 16 guests for a seated lunch. Both huts enjoy outstanding views across the River Spey. The Upper Hut offers a spectacular vista towards Ben Aigan, while the Lower Hut looks across to the striking red sandstone cliffs.

A network of well-maintained fishing roads provides easy access between the riverbank, fishing huts and estate accommodation.

The estate also offers a selection of traditional lodges, carefully restored to provide comfort, privacy and charm, an ideal base for fishing on the River Spey.

The surrounding countryside is rich in wildlife with frequent sightings of kingfishers, roe deer, herons, otters, ospreys and pine martens along this beautiful stretch of the river.
